Rily the Dragon’s Word Games

To create a reliable and flexible learning platform, we used Ionic, a powerful framework for cross-platform app development.

This approach allowed our developers to build one application that works seamlessly across iOS, Android, and web browsers. As a result, learners can access the same experience across multiple devices without compromising performance or usability.

Using Ionic also helped us create a scalable solution that can continue to evolve as the needs of learners and educators grow.

Rily the Dragon’s Word Games combines bright visuals, playful animations, and simple navigation to create an enjoyable experience for young learners.

When developing the app, we focused on making every interaction clear and easy to understand. Children can explore activities independently while receiving visual feedback that guides them through each stage of their learning journey.

Additionally, the colourful artwork and interactive features help make education feel exciting rather than overwhelming. Each activity encourages children to build literacy skills while enjoying a fun and rewarding experience.

Co-funded by the Welsh Government, Rily the Dragon’s Word Games provides KS2 learners with a bilingual learning experience that supports both English and Welsh education.

The app includes five interactive topics, including ‘Our World’ and ‘Numbers, Colours & Shapes’. Each topic gives children the opportunity to develop vocabulary, improve language confidence, and strengthen their understanding through play.

Switching between languages is simple. Learners can choose their preferred language from the homepage and change between English and Welsh at any time using the drop-down menu.

As a result, the app provides a flexible learning environment that supports a wider range of pupils.

Rily the Dragon’s Word Games uses interactive activities to help children improve vocabulary, spelling, reading, and sentence-building skills.

Learners can explore different topics through colourful sliders, with each theme featuring its own artwork and visual style. The changing backgrounds create a more immersive experience and help children feel connected to each activity.

After choosing a topic, learners can select from four educational games:

Fill in the Blanks

Children complete words by selecting the correct letters, helping improve spelling and word recognition.

Match the Word

Learners match images with the correct terms to develop vocabulary and understanding.

Complete the Sentence

Children choose the correct words to complete sentences and improve language skills.

Create a Silly Story

Learners build imaginative stories by selecting different sentence options, encouraging creativity and confidence.

Together, these activities create an enjoyable learning journey that keeps children motivated while developing essential skills.

Every child learns differently. Therefore, we designed Rily the Dragon’s Word Games to support auditory, visual, and hands-on learning styles.

For auditory learners, the app plays words and instructions aloud. This helps children improve pronunciation, listening skills, and spelling.

For visual learners, demonstrations, colourful graphics, and instructional videos provide additional guidance before each activity begins.

For kinesthetic learners, interactive games encourage children to learn through action. Audio and visual feedback help guide them while they complete each challenge.

By combining these approaches, the app creates a more inclusive learning experience that supports children at their own pace.

Rily the Dragon’s Word Games features a simple and intuitive user experience tailored specifically for KS2 learners aged 7 to 11. The clean interface and straightforward navigation make it easy for children to explore the app independently, with clearly designed buttons and visual cues guiding them through each activity. Subtle animations, colour changes, and interactive elements help learners understand selections, track progress, and feel confident as they move through the games.

To keep children motivated, completing each challenge is rewarded with fun and engaging animations, including popping fireworks and dancing characters that vary across different games. These positive moments create a sense of achievement and encourage learners to continue exploring, helping transform educational activities into an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

Rily the Dragon’s Word Games has been developed with responsive design at its core, ensuring the app performs smoothly across mobiles, tablets, laptops, and desktop devices.

The layout automatically adapts to different screen sizes, providing a consistent and user-friendly experience regardless of how learners access the app.
